Yellow Palette

Sunday, November 29, 2009

The house in the northwest of Pallet is the residence of the player's character. The first floor of the house is the living room, and the second floor is the player's bedroom. Other than a PC that holds one Potion at the beginning of the game, there is little to do in this house. The character's mother is seen in the house whenever the player enters; unlike the player's mother in Gold and Silver, this mother does little to further the game's story, although she can heal the player's Pokémon, making the house the equivalent of a Pokemon center. The father is never seen.
The house to the northeast is the residence of both Professor Oak and his grandchildren. His grandson, your rival, never appears in this house, but his granddaughter does appear, and gives the player a map of the Kanto region.
The laboratory in Pallet is where Professor Oak does most of his research. The first time the player attempts to leave Pallet Town, Oak leads the player into the lab to choose his first Pokémon. There is also a computer in the corner that displays an e-mail to Oak, inviting him to watch a battle at the Indigo Plateau. Given the lack of Pokémon professors in the game only the town of origin in Pokémon games has a professor and their level of expertise, it can be assumed that most if not all trainers in the continuity of the game travel to Pallet in order to start a Pokémon trainer's journey. This assumption is merely fanon

Yami to Boshi to Hon no Tabibito

Friday, November 27, 2009

Yami to Bōshi to Hon no Tabibito (ヤミと帽子と本の旅人, possibly translated as Darkness, the Hat, and the Travelers of the Books), also known as Yamibō/Yamibou for short, is both a Japanese adult visual novel published in late 2002 by Root, and a non-adult, thirteen episode anime series released by Root and Studio Deen in 2003. Although the characters and their relationships remain basically the same in the game and anime, the storyline is quite different.
The story follows the travels of Hazuki Azuma, a tall, brooding high-school girl, as she searches for her adopted older sister and love interest, Hatsumi, in many different "book worlds". Her search is rather more of a focus in the anime series, in which Hazuki is the main character, than in the game. The main character of the game, the player, is nameless and occupies a different body in different "book worlds", including Hazuki's at some points. After the disappearance of her sister in the anime, a talking parakeet nicknamed Ken-chan introduces Hazuki to another major character of the series; Lilith, the caretaker of the Great Library. Each book in the library contains a different world, and the guardian of the library takes on the title Yami. As Yami, Lilith wears an enormous single-eyed hat. In the game, the main character's constant companion is Ken-chan. The anime series is popular among yuri fans.
The anime is sometimes criticized as being difficult to follow, due to its non-linear plot and self-referential nature. For example, the first episode of the anime jumps ahead to after Hazuki has met Lilith; however, their actual meeting and explanation of how they get to each book is not shown until later. The anime is narrated by Arya, and the common visual aid to understanding the jumps is to imagine him sitting in a messy pile of books picking one at random to read to you.

xxxHolic has been serialized in Kodansha's Young Magazine periodically since 2003 and published in volumes under the KC Deluxe label. It was a clear, crisp day aboard the luxury cruise ship Oceanic Star. The massive ship cut through the indigo water with precision on her way around the world. Tourists aboard enjoyed the weather on deck by sunbathing or frolicking in the warm pool. It was a day like any other for them, carefree and relaxed, but all was not as it seemed...A sharp sound split the air and a shudder resounded throughout the ship. Deck chairs overturned, and sunbathers were thrown roughly to the deck amid a tangle of gear, people and personal items. The people aboard were in a state of panic. What could have happened? The well trained crew tried to regain order and, following orders from the Captain, began moving the passengers to the lifeboats.Chaos ensued as passengers realized that their worst fears had been realized...the ship was going down.As they boarded the lifeboats and paddled away, a sense of panic began to overcome them and many passed out from the exertion. Upon awakening they found they had been stranded on an isolated island with nothing and no one else around except for a few shattered remains of the ship and a few boxes of supplies. If these strangers are to survive this ordeal they must put aside their petty differences and work together. A few survivors set out to gather any resources they could find on the island. In doing this they began to see that this island was not as barren as they thought and was full of life and resources that, properly used, might help them make their way back home. This is where you join them. Let the adventure begin...
